Spring Fishing Report!

Great family float!

Great family float!

Our Spring fishing continues to improve as the month of April progresses in warmth. It is a delicate balance this time of year between warm weather and clear water. We want it to be warm, say between 40 and 65 degrees, because that really gets our bugs moving. WE have seen Midges, Beatis, A few March browns, and a few Caddis out on the water this month. The forecast for this weekend looks to be great fishing weather. If you are fishing the Yellowstone, nymphing is DEFINITELY the most productive method THROUGHOUT the day right now. A variety of flies COCKTAILS have been producing, but hte most productive has been:

-8-10 pheasant tails

-16-18 black and red Zebra Midges

-size 8-10 PAts Rubber legs

Streamers have also been productivecasting from the boat. We RECOMMEND a short sink tip and have been fishing more white/sparkle colors in sizes 6-10. Smaller Sparkle minnows have been particularly effective. Strip slow. The water is still cold!

In the foam and slow water on warm days we have been seeing lots of rising fish! It is best to fish your nymph/streamer rig until you see risers. 16-18 Purpe Hazes and 18-20 Griffiths Gnats have been the flies of choice in the foam. DEFINITELY wear your waders, but get out there and fish!

We have some great guided trip options right now. Yellowstone National PArk does not open to FISHING until MAy 29, but:

-Floating the Yellowstone River

-Fishing the Spring Creeks

-Fishing our secluded lakes

Give us a call or contact us to set up a Spring trip with one of our expert Yellowstone Fishing guides. April and early MAy are is one of our favorite times to fish BECAUSE there are not very many other people out there! The mountains are snow capped. The fish are hungry!
