Ride to Fish

Ride to Fish: Horseback Fly Fishing Trips

Want the full Montana experience? Our ride to fish trips combine half a day of horseback riding through the Montana wilderness with half a day of fly fishing in places most anglers never see. We run these trips in partnership with Yellowstone Rough Riders, with an expert wrangler leading the ride and one of our fishing guides on the water. If you want to access fisheries where few people go, this is the trip for you.

How Ride-to-Fish Trips Work

Every ride to fish trip is a full-day excursion. You'll spend roughly half the day on horseback getting to and from the water, and half the day fishing.

The horseback portion is led and booked through Yellowstone Rough Riders, our trusted partner for backcountry horse experiences. Our fishing guide meets you at the water with rods, flies, tackle, and a streamside lunch ready to go.

These trips are specialized and logistically complex, so we don't run them every day. That's part of what makes them special. If you're even remotely interested in booking one, reach out to us early so we can coordinate dates with Yellowstone Rough Riders.

Where We Ride and Fish

We have several options depending on what you want out of the day:

The Black Canyon of the Yellowstone River is one of our favorites. You ride into a stretch of the Yellowstone where the trout rarely see flies, and the canyon scenery alone is worth the trip.

Backcountry lakes give you access to high-elevation stillwater that very few anglers ever fish. The trout can be exceptional and the country is wild.

Remote stretches of the Yellowstone River that are too far to reach on foot in a single day open up easily on horseback.

Ride to fish inside Yellowstone National Park is also possible, though these trips are highly specialized and require additional coordination. Reach out if this is the experience you're after and we'll work to make it happen.

Pricing:

  • Fishing portion: $1,000 per fishing guide for the day, covering 1 or 2 anglers.

    • Each additional angler is $190, up to a maximum of 5 anglers per guide.

  • Horseback portion: $800, booked separately through Yellowstone Rough Riders.

Pricing reflects the logistical complexity of these trips. It's worth every dollar.
